Carol Dyer is an accomplished painter of early American traditions. Born in Boston, Massachusetts, she now resides in Maryland where she paints full time. She is well known for her "Washington Christmas Series." These paintings of historic buildings in our nation’s capitol have commanded significant audiences throughout this country and abroad.
Authenticity and meticulous attention to detail are trademarks of her paintings which
celebrate the different aspects of American life at the turn of the century. She often remarks that "one should read my paintings like a book." Carol began her artistic career painting signs for friends and neighbors who enjoyed her unique folk art designs. A close examination of her paintings show her continued enjoyment for signs. They are sprinkled throughout each of her major works, on the sides of old trolleys, decorating an old fashioned popcorn vendor’s wagon or identifying the shopkeeper’s wares for sale. A happy, energetic, person, these attributes are reflected in her colorful, sunny images of a Victorian era long gone.
Carol has exhibited extensively throughout the Mid-Atlantic area and is currently working on a major national project for the Mystic Seaport Museum painting historic harbors. She has completed Baltimore, Boston, Alexandria, New Orleans, and New York harbor views. Carol Dyer was commissioned by the Easport Yacht Club in Annapolis to do the rendition of their famous Lights Parade of Boats during the Christmas season. Over 15 of her paintings have been published as limited edition prints.
Carol’s works can be found in the Smithsonian, Library of Congress, and Mount Vernon museum shops as well as private and corporate collections.
McBride Gallery is pleased to represent this talented artist.
