2008 Annual Calendar of Events and Exhibitions
Special Note:
The city of Annapolis is celebrating the 300th Anniversary of its Royal Charter. Many of the art exhibits in 2008 will focus on the history surrounding this special Annapolis anniversary. The Art Exhibits will range from farm and countryside views to scenes of the city of Annapolis, to paintings remembering the importance of the Chesapeake Bay in maritime battles, famous skipjacks fishing the Bay to more recently the Chesapeake as a place known for boating recreation and pleasure.
Exhibit: “Nature's Splendor”
Artist: Michael Godfrey
Exhibit Dates: March 30 - April 13, 2008
The opening reception to meet the artist is Sunday, March 30 from 1 3pm. McBride Gallery opens the spring show season with a Solo Show for nationally known landscape artist, Michael Godfrey. The Wolftrap “Artist of the Year” in 2006, Godfrey has exhibited in numerous museum shows and won national awards for his paintings of the Rocky Mountains in the West to the marshes of the Chesapeake Bay in the East.

Exhibit: “Americana”
Artists: Carol Dyer and Lou Messa
Exhibit Dates: April 27 May 11, 2008
The opening reception to meet the artists is Sunday, April 27th from 1 3pm. Carol Dyer, a celebrated Maryland folk artist paints the vignettes of Annapolis’ history in her unique style: City Dock, Eastern Shore beaches and harbor views across the country. Lou Messa is a Virginia painter of landscape and country themes painting barns with ‘Coca cola’ emblems to old hay rakes, tobacco barns and even the occasional outhouse.

Exhibit: “The Young Impressionists: 5 Years Later”
Artists: Tim Bell, Stephen Griffin and Abigail McBride
Exhibit Dates: June 8 June 22, 2008
The opening reception to meet the artists is Sunday, June 8th from 1 3pm. The American Impressionist movement is alive and well in Annapolis as a growing contingent of painters have embraced this style of painting. The ‘Young Impressionists’ first presented their paintings in 2003 in a highly regarded exhibit and will present their recent work to include scenes of the Chesapeake Bay and other painting venues - with a salute to the changes in their style and techniques in 5 years.

This exhibit will showcase scenes of Annapolis THEN and NOW. This show will feature McBride Gallery Artists and selected guest artists painting scenes of Annapolis from times in the past 300 years of its history and Annapolis as it looks today. A special exhibit of wood from The Maryland Liberty Tree that stood for over 400 years in Annapolis on St. John’s College campus will be on display at McBride Gallery.

Show Dates: September 14 September 28, 2008
The opening reception to meet the artists is Sunday, September 14th from 1 3pm. This maritime themed exhibit will feature historic scenes on the Chesapeake Bay from battle scenes to steamboats that ferried passengers and freight prior to the Bay Bridge to the wildlife, marshes, small coves and inlets that define this extensive waterway.
Artists will include: Eric Forsberg, Scott Cameron, Neil Harpe, Michael Kahn, Bill Schmidt, Jeremy Pearse, Michael Godfrey, Paula Waterman, John Bannon and more.
