Luella Morgenthaler was born in Chicago where her family had migrated from Germany. Her father was a pattern maker and undoubtedly his only child inherited his ability with forms.
Luella's babysiter was a pencil or crayon and a piece of paper. Her schooling in Chicago began in a two room schoolhouse and ended with a teaching degree. The art classes associated with her degree came from instruction at the Chicago Art Institute. She was well into music and is accomplished with the piano.
She married the head of the Math Department at the university of Illinois, and moved with him to Denver, Colorado where they raised four sons. It was during this time that she began selling her art at sidewalk art shows.
Seven years ago, the Morgenthaler clan moved to Annapolis, bought a house on the water and started life in 'heaven' according to Luella. "When I paint Annapolis," she says, "I want it to be a love note to my adopted town to thank her for the pleasure and joy she has given me."
Luella's bay vistas and historic Annapolis scenes are found in many corporate and private collections. Private collectors enjoy these scenes as well as the fresh breath of spring her florals bring to their living quarters.
