Watercolors: Making Waves

Watercolor as a painting medium began to rise in status in 1866 when the American Watercolor Society was founded in New York City. No longer
thought of as a 'mere study medium,' watercolor has grown into an accepted,
even embraced medium, for major international artists, national and regional
watercolor societies, exhibitions, museum shows, and an expanding
number of national art magazines.
