Sam Robinson
Sam Robinson is an American painter working in a manner best described as painterly realism. He favors direct work from life in gouache and oils, painting quickly, using fluent brushwork to achieve immediate naturalism. His home and studio are in North Baltimore County, a short drive from the Maryland hunt country that defines the area and the equine traditions that still thrive there. While equine sporting themes form a significant part of his subject matter, the life of the surrounding countryside, still rural in character, offers many more subjects. The gardens and interiors of his home, a remaining parcel of a family estate dating to 1860, also serve as a source of subjects.
Born in 1953, educated at the Maryland Institute in the 1970’s, he has had a long career in the Decorative and Fine Arts. Strong involvement with the Plein Air movement and portrait painting gave way to Sporting Art as his primary subject over the last 20 years. His artistic calendar is filled with working on location at steeplechase races and foxhunting meets, filling a series of annual shows of his work, supplying several galleries and completing commissions.
McBride Gallery is pleased to represent the work of this talented Maryland artist.
