Route 50 (between Washington DC and Annapolis) is also called John Hanson Highway. John Hanson was a Swede, the first President of this country under the Articles of Confederation, chosen unanimously by the Continental Congress and sworn in on March 1, 1781 serving a very productive 1 year term.

Welcome to Annapolis!

We do hope you will visit!

Annapolis is a beautiful town. Gracious historic buildings, brick streets and a view of the Chesapeake Bay await you.

McBride Gallery is at the top of Main Street near Church Circle - see the building icon with the red roof on the map.

Driving and Parking Directions:

Watch for one-way streets, there are lots of them, but the circles are wonderful - if you miss your street exit, just go around again!

If you come in off Route 50 onto Rowe Blvd (MD 70), stay on it all the way to College Avenue and make a right toward Church Circle. Follow Church Circle around to Duke of Gloucester Street, making a right turn off the circle. This is a 2-lane one-way street. To park in the Hillman Garage, stay in the left lane. The Hillman Garage is a left turn just after you go through the light at Conduit Street.

If you miss the turn, continue to Green Street (one way), turn left and continue to Main Street. Turn left on Main Street and the next left will let you enter the Hillman Garage on the lower level.

Other Parking information:

Best kept parking secret:
Annapolis has a 'new' garage - The Bladen Street Garage, is accessed from St. Johns Street next to St. Johns College. Come in on Rowe Blvd (MD 70, stay in the left lane, just after you pass the right fork to Calvert Street, is a light, turn left at the light, go a short block to St. Johns Street, turn left , the garage is on your left. The entrance is at the far end. Click on this link for a good detailed Annapolis City map for all Garages and Bus routes and the blue (or white) Circulator Trolley which you may ride for $1.00. While the Bladen Street Garage is not pictured on the City map, see the blue P where MD 70 meets Calvert Street. Only legislators and state workers may use it during the week. This garage is FREE on weekends and evenings (6pm to 6am) for the public to use.

You may park on Main Street - Parking Meters allow for 2 hours (some are 30 minute) but the meter maids are efficient and we recommend garages to avoid tickets and have peace of mind. The garages are around $2.00 an hour, those further out are less. Besides the Hillman Garage situated between Main Street and Duke of Gloucester St., the Gotts Court Garage is the next nearest one to Main Street. Access it from Calvert Street or Northwest Street. Meters need to be fed from 10am - 7:30pm every day; on Sundays feed them beginning at 12 noon.

Picking something up? Or unloading something large?

At the top of Main Street on the left side in front of the Maryland Inn is a loading zone for all of upper Main Street businesses and their customers - this includes you - 15 minutes allowed. Do notice the Treaty of Paris Restaurant in the Maryland Inn on your left - their fresh popovers and cornbread are legendary.

Call us from the road if you get lost or the garages are full, we can direct you to another garage. The Blue (now some white ones) Circulator Trolley is wonderful, only $1.00 and you can simply 'hail' it to give you a lift.
