Bruce Handford is an award-winning watercolor artist painting in a style that reflects the best traditions of American watercolorists. His paintings have a purity and energy created with fresh colorful washes and emboldened by his strong free-form drawing technique that gives structure to the work. His exaggerated architectural shapes almost give human personalities to buildings, while the minimalist figures in his paintings give a sense of scale and life to each scene. |
Entertaining the viewer with strong light and shadow, Handford’s loose painterly style captures the essence of the subject while focusing
on the feeling and mood of the moment.
Bruce has studied with internationally reknown artists Tony Couch, William (Skip) B. Lawrence, David Taylor, Frank Webb, Domenic
DiStefano and Alvaro Castagnet. He paints full time from his upstate New York studio and often travels to paint various locales along
the East Coast and throughout New England. Coastal harbors, sailing, and landscapes are favorite subjects. He has recently been working
en plein air to more accurately capture the quality of light and color of the subject.
Bruce Handford is a Signature Member of the North East Watercolor Society and the Transparent Watercolor Society of America.
